Prayer of Surrender to God

Letting go and trusting God with everything

Life often asks us to release what we cannot control — an outcome, a relationship, a diagnosis, a fear of the future. This prayer stands in the long Christian tradition of abandonment to Divine Providence, echoing Christ's own words from the Cross. It is prayed by anyone who feels the exhaustion of gripping too tightly and longs to place their life back in God's hands. Those wrestling with worry may also find comfort in the Prayer for Anxiety.

O God, my Father, into Your hands I place this day and all my days, for You alone know what is good for me. I have tried to steer my own way through fear and through control, and I am weary of carrying what was never mine to carry alone. Teach me to say, with Your Son upon the Cross, "Into Your hands I commend my spirit," and mean it with my whole heart. Take my plans, my worries, my need to understand every step before I take it, and replace them with a quiet trust in Your providence. Where I cannot see the way forward, let me lean on the certainty that You see it, and that You are good. Free me from the burden of needing to control what belongs to You alone, and give me the peace that comes only from surrender. I abandon myself into Your hands, Father; do with me as You will. Amen.

When to Pray This

Pray it each morning as an offering of the day ahead, or in any moment when anxiety about the future tightens your chest. It is especially fitting before a difficult decision, a medical diagnosis, or any situation whose outcome lies beyond your control.

Benefits of This Prayer

Praying this surrender regularly loosens the grip of anxious control and replaces it with a settled trust in God's providence. Over time it forms the habit of returning worries to God as soon as they arise, rather than carrying them alone, much as the Prayer for Inner Peace cultivates a quiet heart.
