Hail Mary

The Ave Maria, prayed throughout the Rosary

The Hail Mary is one of the oldest and most widely prayed Catholic prayers, combining the angel Gabriel's greeting to Mary at the Annunciation with Elizabeth's greeting at the Visitation, followed by a request for her intercession. It forms the heart of the Rosary and is prayed countless times a day around the world.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
