Prayer for Protection
Standing guard against the powers of darkness
For centuries, Catholics have turned to Saint Michael the Archangel, the great prince of the heavenly host, to defend them against evil both seen and unseen. Pope Leo XIII placed this prayer at the end of every Low Mass after a vision of the trials the Church would face, and it remains one of the most beloved prayers of spiritual protection. It is often prayed alongside the Prayer Before Sleeping as a shield for the night ahead.

When to Pray This
Pray it each morning before facing the day's temptations, at night before sleep, or whenever you sense a particular spiritual attack or unease. It is also traditionally prayed after Mass and in times of moral or physical danger.
Benefits of This Prayer
Praying to Saint Michael regularly strengthens spiritual awareness and courage against temptation, reminding the soul that it does not fight alone. It fosters trust in God's power over every evil, however fierce, and deepens devotion to the angels who guard us. Many parents also pray the Prayer for Children to place their family under this same protection.
