Prayer for Children

A parent's daily offering for their children

Parents carry their children's safety, character, and future close to the heart, often without words for all they hope and fear. This prayer gives voice to that constant, wordless watching, entrusting sons and daughters to the God who welcomed little children into His own arms. It is often prayed alongside the Prayer for Families as part of a parent's daily routine.

Heavenly Father, You who welcomed little children into Your arms and said the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to such as these, I bring my children before You now. Watch over their bodies and keep them safe from harm; watch over their hearts and keep them tender toward You and toward others. Give me the wisdom to guide them, the patience to bear with their growing, and the humility to ask forgiveness when I fail them. Surround them with people who will love them well, and protect them from every danger to body and soul. Whatever path You have prepared for their lives, may they walk it close to You, and may I have the grace to let them go when the time comes, trusting them always to Your care. Amen.

When to Pray This

Pray it each morning as children leave for school, each night after they are asleep, or whenever a particular worry about their safety, health, or choices weighs on you. It is also fitting during milestones — a first day, a difficult friendship, a big decision — when you feel your influence over them beginning to loosen.

Benefits of This Prayer

Praying for your children regularly does not remove the work of raising them, but it reorders your heart, reminding you that they belong to God before they belong to you. Over time it softens the anxious grip parents can fall into, replacing it with a steadier trust, and it makes you more patient and less reactive in the daily friction of family life.
