Prayer to the Sacred Heart of Jesus

Devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus has nourished Catholic piety for centuries, drawing believers into the boundless love symbolized by Christ's pierced and burning Heart. O Sacred Heart of Jesus, burning furnace of charity, pierced with love for me even as it was pierced by the soldier's lance, I place my whole life within You. You who said, "Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest," draw my restless heart into the shelter of Your own. I consecrate to You my thoughts, my desires, my joys and my sorrows, my family and my work, holding nothing back. Purify what is disordered in me, inflame what has grown cold, and heal what is wounded, that my heart may beat in rhythm with Yours. Sacred Heart of Jesus, I trust in You; make me humble and gentle of heart as You are. May I love You more each day and make You loved by those around me. Amen.

When to Pray This

Pray it on First Fridays, during the month of June traditionally dedicated to the Sacred Heart, or simply whenever you wish to renew your consecration to Christ. It is also fitting in moments of spiritual dryness, when the heart feels distant from God and needs rekindling.

Benefits of This Prayer

Regular devotion to the Sacred Heart deepens intimacy with Christ and gradually conforms the one who prays to His humility and gentleness. It also becomes a wellspring of comfort in hardship, much as those who pray the Prayer for Strength in Suffering draw courage from union with Christ's own suffering love.
