Prayer for Healing a Broken Heart

O Mother of Sorrows, you who felt your own heart pierced through with grief, look with compassion upon mine, broken now by loss and by love that has gone unanswered. You know what it is to hope and to be disappointed, to love fully and to watch that love meet suffering; do not let me believe that I grieve alone. Gather up the pieces of my heart as tenderly as you gathered your Son's body into your arms, and hold them until they can be whole again. Teach me neither to harden my heart against love nor to despair of ever being loved rightly, but to entrust this wound to your Son, who binds up the brokenhearted. Obtain for me the grace to forgive where forgiveness is needed, to heal where healing is possible, and to trust where only trust remains. Our Lady of Sorrows, comfort of the afflicted, pray for me. Amen.
