Prayer for Forgiveness
Letting go of a grudge at last
Anyone carrying a grudge they cannot seem to release, or hoping to be forgiven for a wrong they have done, can turn to this prayer built on the spirit of Saint Francis of Assisi's Peace Prayer. It faces forgiveness honestly, as a real choice rather than a feeling that simply arrives on its own. Many pray it alongside the Prayer for Inner Peace when resentment has begun to steal their peace of mind.

When to Pray This
Pray it whenever an old hurt resurfaces, before receiving the Sacrament of Reconciliation, or after a conflict with someone close to you that still needs mending. It is especially fitting on the Feast of Saint Francis of Assisi or during Lent, a season devoted to repentance and mercy.
Benefits of This Prayer
Praying it regularly loosens the grip that old wounds hold over the heart and makes room for God's own mercy to work through you toward others. It also softens pride when you yourself are the one at fault, and can be prayed alongside the Prayer for Marriage when forgiveness is needed between spouses.
