Prayer for a Loved One Struggling with Addiction

Praying for someone you cannot fix yourself

1 min read

Watching someone you love struggle with addiction is its own particular grief. This prayer, in the spirit of Saint Monica's decades of prayer for her son Augustine, entrusts a loved one to God.

Lord, I love someone caught in addiction, and I cannot fix this for them no matter how much I wish I could. Protect them from the worst dangers of this struggle. Soften their heart toward change, and surround them with people and moments that lead toward help rather than further harm. Give me the wisdom to know how to love them well, and the patience to keep praying even when nothing seems to change. Amen.
