Prayers to Saint Charbel Makhlouf

01

Prayer for Strength in Suffering

Strength in Suffering

Saint Charbel Makhlouf, hidden monk of Lebanon, who embraced silence, penance, and the Holy Eucharist as the strength of your days, look upon me in this time of suffering. You who bore hardship with joy, hidden with Christ in the solitude of your hermitage, obtain for me the grace to carry my own cross without bitterness. When pain weighs heavily upon me, teach me to unite it to the sufferings of Christ, that it may become, as it did for you, a path to holiness rather than despair. Saint Charbel, wonder-worker of Annaya, ask the Lord to grant me the strength I lack, and if it be His will, relief from this trial. Amen.

02

Prayer for Strength During Financial Hardship

Strength in Suffering

Saint Charbel, you who lived in poverty and wanted for nothing because you possessed God alone, look upon me now as I struggle beneath the weight of bills unpaid, debts unresolved, and work I cannot find. I am afraid of what tomorrow may bring, and the numbers before me seem to leave no room for hope. Intercede for me before the Lord, that he may open a way where I see none, and provide for my needs as he provides for the sparrows and the lilies of the field. Free my heart from the shame and anxiety that poverty brings, and help me trust that my worth is not measured by what I own. Guide me toward honest work and wise decisions, and soften the hearts of those who can help me. Whatever comes, let me never lose faith in God's providence. Amen.

03

Prayer When Feeling Overwhelmed

Strength in Suffering

Saint Charbel, hermit of Lebanon, you withdrew from the noise of the world into a silence that healed your soul, teaching us that peace is found not in escaping our burdens but in carrying them with God. I come to you today with too much pressing upon me at once — tasks unfinished, demands pulling me in every direction, and no room left to breathe. Ask the Lord to quiet the storm within me, even if the storm around me does not yet subside. Help me see clearly which burdens are truly mine to carry and which I can set down in trust. Teach me your stillness, that I may face one task at a time instead of drowning in all of them together. Give me the grace to rest in God's hands when my own hands are full. Amen.

04

Prayer for Depression

Depression

Saint Charbel Makhlouf, hidden monk who lived long years in silence and did not run from difficulty, but let God meet you within it, be near to me in this darkness I cannot seem to lift on my own. Some days the weight of simply continuing feels like more than I can bear, and joy feels far away. You who found God present even in isolation and hardship, ask Him to make Himself known to me in mine — not necessarily by taking this darkness away, but by walking through it with me. Grant me the grace to seek the help I need, the patience to endure the days that are heavier than others, and the quiet hope that this night, too, will not last forever. Amen.
