Prayer After Miscarriage
Grieving a child known only briefly
Parents who have lost a child to miscarriage turn to Our Lady of Sorrows, who herself held her dead Son in her arms, to find a mother's understanding in their grief. This prayer names a loss that is often invisible to others — a child loved from the first sign of life, mourned before ever being met. Some who pray it also turn to the Prayer in Time of Grief as their sorrow continues in the weeks that follow.

When to Pray This
Pray it in the days immediately after a miscarriage, on the anniversary of the loss, or whenever grief resurfaces unexpectedly — at a due date that never arrived, or seeing another mother's pregnancy. It is especially fitting on the Memorial of Our Lady of Sorrows or during Holy Week, as she stood beneath the Cross.
Benefits of This Prayer
Praying it can bring a mother's grief into the open rather than letting it be carried in silence, and it offers real comfort in trusting the child to God's mercy. Over time it can also ease the isolation many feel after miscarriage, especially when paired with the Prayer for Pregnancy in a future pregnancy marked by fear.
