Born in Lisbon in 1195, Anthony joined the Franciscans and became one of the great preachers of his age, renowned for his knowledge of Scripture and his care for the poor. He died near Padua, Italy, in 1231 and was declared a Doctor of the Church. Countless generations have turned to him for help in finding what is lost, both material and spiritual.

Prayer Before Moving to Another Country
TravelersSaint Anthony of Padua, you who left your homeland to follow God's call into unfamiliar lands, be near to me as I prepare to leave everything I know behind. My heart is heavy with the faces I will miss, the streets I have walked a thousand times, and the uncertainty of the country now waiting for me. Ask the Lord to bless this crossing, to guard my journey, and to soften my landing in a place that does not yet feel like home. Watch over the family and friends I leave behind, and let the distance between us never weaken the love that binds us. Give me courage to build a new life with an open and hopeful heart, and help me find, in time, people who will love me as family in this new land. May God go before me on every road, and welcome me home again whenever I return. Amen.

TravelersSaint Anthony of Padua, faithful friend of the poor and finder of what is lost, watch over me as I set out on this journey. You who traveled far in the service of the Gospel, protect me from every danger of the road, whether by land, sea, or air. Guide those who travel with me, keep us alert and unharmed, and bring us safely to our destination and, in time, safely home again. If ever I should lose my way, be near to me as you are near to all who call upon you in their need. Saint Anthony, patron of travelers, pray for us. Amen.
