Prayer for Finding God in Everyday Work

Inspired by Blessed Estephan Nehmé

Blessed Estephan Nehmé, a Lebanese Maronite lay brother, spent 31 quiet years doing the ordinary work of a monastery — farming, carpentry, repairs — guided by one motto: "God sees me." This prayer asks for his same patience with the small, unnoticed work of everyday life.

Lord, You who see everything I do, even the smallest and most hidden task, teach me to work as Blessed Estephan Nehmé did — not for praise, not to be noticed, but simply because You are watching. When my work feels small, repetitive, or unseen by anyone else, remind me that nothing done with love is ever wasted in Your eyes. Give me his patience with ordinary things: the chores I would rather skip, the responsibilities no one thanks me for, the quiet labor that keeps my home and my life in order. Let me say, as he did, "God sees me," and find in that simple truth all the courage I need to keep going faithfully, one small task at a time. Amen.
