Gabriel appears in the Book of Daniel interpreting visions, and in the Gospel of Luke announcing to Zechariah the birth of John the Baptist and to Mary the coming birth of Jesus — the event known as the Annunciation. His name means "God is my strength" or "Man of God."
Alongside Michael and Raphael, Gabriel is one of only a few angels named directly in the Bible, and is venerated as an archangel across Christian, Jewish, and Islamic tradition.
